John O’Groats
John O’Groats has a rich and storied history, which includes the backstory to its name. Jan De Groot is who the village is named after, a 15th century Dutchman who ran a ferry to Orkney. Our family’s part in this heritage started with a stall that was set up in John O’Groats in the 1950’s, which has now become the ‘First and Last’ shop. From the iconic John O’Groats signpost to the adventurous John O’Groats trail, we believe our heritage makes us who we are and we want you to feel the same sense of belonging during your visit.
